LISBON, Portugal — The parents of a British girl who disappeared in southern Portugal nearly four months ago said Friday they are suing a Portuguese newspaper over an article alleging police believe they accidentally killed the toddler.

Kate and Gerry McCann said they were "deeply hurt" by the front page report last month in the weekly Tal & Qual, which claimed that police were certain they accidentally killed their 4-year-old daughter, Madeleine, by giving her an overdose of sedatives.

"This statement is without truth or evidence," the McCanns said in a statement e-mailed to The Associated Press.

Police have said publicly that the McCanns are not suspects in the case.

Madeleine vanished May 3 from an apartment where she was sleeping with her 2-year-old twin siblings in Praia da Luz, a town on Portugal's southern Algarve resort coast. Her parents were having dinner in the hotel's restaurant with vacationing friends and said they checked on their children at regular intervals.

The McCanns have remained in the Algarve since the disappearance, running an Internet campaign to find their daughter and visiting several countries where she may have been taken by an abductor. They have indicated they may soon return to Britain, where they work.

"The McCanns feel the (newspaper) allegations are very serious and damaging to their professional and personal reputations," the statement said.

They have instructed lawyers to sue Tal & Qual's editor and a reporter for defamation. The case would be heard in Porto, in northern Portugal, where the paper is based.

Nobody at the newspaper was immediately available for comment.

The McCanns currently have no plans to attend any court proceedings, a spokeswoman said. Cases can take years to come to trial in Portugal.

Well, it's about time. The type of allegations made against the McCanns are not only hurtful to them personally, but casts a bad light over an already corrupt investigation. This past week the attack on the McCanns continued unabashed. Allegations that they drugged their children. Allegations that a syringe was found in the apartment. Allegations. Allegations. Allegations. A new allegation per day. Yet none backed up by the PJ. And none backed up by evidence. Remember that thing called evidence? Some seem to have forgotten it. Let's remember that unidentified DNA was found in the apartment and to date that has not been clarified.

Corruption vs Incompetency

Is the investigation corrupt or incompetent?
With the amount of money and training it takes to get an officer from the training phase to the street, those with sub-par skills are quickly weeded out. Aptitude tests, tactics, leadership, and a variety of other specialized test are designed to determine if a potential recruit has the GUSTO needed to make the grade.

I believe it is safe to assume that the police in Portugal are as well trained as any other. That they have the necessary funding and equipment to do the job. Where they did not possess the skills or equipment, Britain and other LE were called in. Very little was left to chance. That leaves us with corruption. Between the police force and the media the McCann were up against a stacked deck from day one. All that was missing were the psychics. They quickly filled the vacuum and had everyone running in circles.

As I said on 5.31.2007 in post titled - Madeleine McCann investigation is over, I knew at the time that this was not going to turn out the way most of us had hoped.

How did I know?

First of all, I'm not an Investigator, nor am I a Former Law Enforcement Officer. I do have common sense and that was what was lacking from the get-go in the Madeleine McCann Investigation.

The Portuguese Police leave me with the impression they never wanted to solve the case. But why? Who really knows. Could be to protect tourism in Praia da Luz, could be they just don't care, could be they think the McCanns are to blame and they should figure this out on their own. We may never know the real underlying reason. We could guess all day and never arrive at the real reason. There was a certain lack of empathy here and a lack of empathy is the EVIL we all try so hard to combat.

Pedophiles want the parents blamed and the search for the child abandoned. And it worked. The police and their accomplices in the Portuguese media pulled the rug out from under this investigation, turned the support for the McCanns into a feeding frenzy where some mentally deficient individuals actually called for the twins to be removed from their care. As if the McCanns were not suffering enough.

It was a farce from the very beginning. Sorry to say that those that needed the information the most were unable to see the writing on the wall.

Looking in is certainly easier than looking out.

I hope by some stroke of luck Madeleine is found. The way things are going it will take all the luck in the World.

The KLPD, in conjunction with the FBI based in Barbados, are actively pursuing the case and it is NOT closed, or likely to be closed any time soon.

I am as skeptical as anyone, but some know more than I. The fact remains that the Aruban Justice Department is under the auspices of the Netherlands. This the one area where Aruba's Separate Aparte Status is not in play. They must adhere to the Dutch Legal System. Whether this will be the Aruban version of the Dutch Legal System or the TRUE VERSION of the Dutch Legal System will remain to be seen.

Where this will go is anyone's guess. However, Holland is apparently ready to assume all responsibility in this matter. Aruba could very well be off the hook should Holland and the KLPD be unable to prove the case.

The father of Madeleine McCann has lost faith in the Portuguese police investigation to find his missing daughter and plans to wind down the media campaign.

Gerry McCann also hinted that he and his wife Kate, 39, were preparing to take the decision finally to return to Britain with their twins.

Gerry, who speaks regularly to detectives, said police seem to be no closer to solving the crime.

He has grown frustrated at the slow pace of the investigation and the lack of information being passed to him.

He said: "We just want to get to the bottom of things, find Madeleine, but obviously, there is no sign of a breakthrough.

"The only way I'll be happy is when Madeleine is found. It's an ongoing trauma." He added that the investigative procedures and style of the Portuguese police made it "very hard" for he and Kate.

"The Portuguese police do things very, very quietly," he said. "They like to do things quietly and not for people to know.

"The way the investigation is being handled is very different to the UK where the police like to give out information."

Gerry, 39, hinted at the frustrations on his internet blog. He wrote: "Unfortunately we have to add patience to our other characteristics."

The couple, from Rothley, Leics, were also angered when police said they believed Madeleine could be dead without informing them first.

It is now 116 days since Madeleine was snatched from her parents' holiday apartment in Praia da Luz.

British ex-pat Robert Murat remains the only suspect in the case, but there is speculation he is going to be cleared.

Robert Murat needs an advocate in the worst way and he seems to have found his man.

Do you have a mother? Have you ever shared a house with her? Might you have dealt with anyone a couple of years past his teens who (for all you know) could have boasted to someone else about seducing an underage girl? Might you be separated from a spouse and conduct another affair? Might you love your daughter? Might you have a cellar in your house? Might you assist local efforts to trace a missing child?

Well watch out, because if any toddler should go missing anywhere near you, and you were to be (not unreasonably) questioned by police, the British press could have had you hanged, drawn and quartered by Monday.

A life has been destroyed after the abduction of Madeleine McCann. Perhaps two, for we do not yet know Madeleine’s fate, and perhaps we never will. But for Robert Murat, the one-time suspect whom much of the British newspaper industry and parts of the Portuguese media casually decided to convict, a life lies in ruins. There is no redemption for Mr Murat now, not if the Angel Gabriel should appear on television to exonerate him. The name alone brings a shudder.

But nobody closely involved with this case believes any longer that Mr Murat is anything but an innocent man. For the rest of the world, however, glancing in passing at headlines and skimming news reports over its coffee, the name Murat is now synonymous with “creepy oddball and obvious suspect”.

His reputation will not now be rescued even by the arrest and conviction of anyone else. Imagine today giving your name at a hotel reception as Robert Murat — or Colin Stagg, or Sally Clark. Linkages between a crime and a name are set up in the public imagination and persist even after the story has changed direction. “Robert Murat — wasn’t he the one suspected of taking Maddie? Or cleared of it? Whatever. Mixed up in it anyway.”

For the record, Robert Murat is an Anglo-Portuguese man in his early thirties who has separated from his English wife, has a girlfriend estranged from her own husband, and is sharing a house with his mother, not far from where Madeleine McCann disappeared. After her disappearance he volunteered to help. He hired a car for a few days. His house has a cellar. He has a friendly business connection with a 22-year-old

Russian IT operative, Sergey Malinka, who was (it was reported) claimed by a workmate once to have boasted about underage sex. Mr Murat and Mr Malinka have spoken to each other on mobile phones. And Mr Murat has a four-year-old daughter who (somebody says) looks like Madeleine. Oh — and he’s blind in one eye.

Allegations have swirled around about computers on which pornographic websites have been accessed; but as a large proportion of computers worldwide would answer to that description and the claims have been neither confirmed nor elucidated, I shall not pursue these.

Now watch the British media at work. Exercising a courtesy not extended to Mr Murat, I shall name neither papers nor reporters. Let the headlines (in italics) and reports that follow provide a handy journalists’ guide to assassination-by-innuendo.

**When the police clear Robert Murat - He's cleared, not when a so called Journalist clears him. A family member as an alibi is not an alibi in my opinion. Parents lie for their children everyday.**

One last note... It hardly appears that Mr. Parris is an investigative journalist. He strikes as the kind that goes on a hunch and fits in quite nicely with the PLE. I have said before that I am not sure if Mr. Murat is the actual perpetrator. I don't think anyone truly knows. How Mr. Parris arrived at his conclusion is still up for debate. Should Mr. Murat become the next Richard Jewel, he will be compensated quite nicely, as he has already attempted through a book deal while still a formal suspect.

I'm not totally sure what to think of this ONE. I think my beliefs on the PSYCHICS is pretty clear. I've posted my thoughts on these people a few times.

I do find it interesting that a fund was created to pay for their services. I have yet to see a psychic do anything that does not include a pay off. Until they see Pounds, Dollars or Guilders, they do nothing. I would hope that the majority of people would run to the Police if they have any real info in the case. Other than the perpetrator(s) of course.

This seems to be the ultimate scam. The Weatherman gets it right more often than these people and he is criticized for a 50 % record. Let's remember that the British Government looked into psychics and found it was totally useless.

I guess some people will believe anything. Wait! I don't need to guess, THEY WILL!

Some people actually believe Joran Van Der Sloot is completely innocent. And the Kalpoes are choir boys. That Mama Nadira always tells the truth. That Gerold Dompig is a REAL Law Enforcement Officer. LONDON — A firm of private detectives that hired psychics to help the hunt for Madeleine McCann is being investigated by police for allegedly breaking Portuguese laws on criminal cases.

The company, Strongwood, claims that it is being funded by donations from more than 100,000 people to carry out inquiries into the disappearance of Madeleine from her bed in the resort of Praia da Luz 114 days ago.

However, Portuguese detectives have contacted officers in the Netherlands complaining that the company has broken laws that mean that only police can investigate criminal cases.

Strongwood, which is registered with the Dutch Ministry of Justice as a private investigation company, said that it had received donations totalling more than a team of three private detectives, an expert in children with a “special disorders” and a person with “special abilities” to Praia da Luz at end of last month.

A report of its findings concluded that Madeleine could have died before 7p.m. on the night that she went missing (based on what???). Madeleine’s parents, Kate and Gerry McCann, have insisted that she was alive at 9 p.m. The company also claimed that the child was killed in her apartment before being taken to a beach in a white van where her body was dumped. (again based on what???)

Nico van den Dries, chief executive of Strongwood, said that the company had been sharing information with Portuguese detectives and had not been told it was an offense to investigate criminal cases.

“We were asked to look at the case because some clairvoyants from America and the Netherlands were giving evidence to the Portuguese police and they were not following them up,” he said. “We are just doing it for the the expenses. We have been co-operating with the Portuguese and they have not said it is against the law.”

Inspector Olegário Sousa, of the Polícia Judiciária, said: “The investigation in Portugal only can be done by police forces. As the collection of funds was done in a foreign country, only the police in Netherlands can pursue what is clearly a fraud. No private detectives had worked with us or with our British colleagues.”

The full details of what happened on the night Madeleine McCann went missing are revealed today.

An investigation has pieced together the events on the night the four-year-old vanished from the family's apartment in Praia da Luz in Portugal almost four months ago.

It shows that the abductor is most likely to have struck between 9.05pm and 9.15pm. But her disappearance could not have been discovered until 10pm, because her family and friends did not enter the bedroom where she was sleeping until that time.

Gerry McCann checked on his daughter at 9.05pm and then neither he nor his wife Kate checked on their children again until 10pm when they discovered Madeleine was missing.

Although the McCanns always monitored their children every 30 minutes, the night Madeleine vanished a friend of the family Matthew Oldfield offered to check for them at 9.30pm.

But instead of entering the bedroom, it is understood he listened at the door, heard nothing and assumed everything was fine. In fact, Madeleine had almost certainly been snatched by then.

Fifteen minutes earlier, at 9.15pm, a friend of the McCanns, Jane Tanner, who had gone to check on her children, saw a man walking away from the Ocean Club resort carrying a small child. Ms Tanner later described the pyjamas the girl was wearing - matching the description of those worn by Madeleine on the night.

Mr Oldfield's failure to check inside the bedroom may have cost vital time in the search for the little girl.

The Mail's sister newspaper, the Evening Standard, has spoken to a series of sources close to the McCanns and their friends who have revealed details of the events on the night.

They have also revealed that the McCanns have been frustrated over not being allowed to speak publicly about the events on the night - because of Portuguese rules preventing witnesses talking about a criminal case.

But they have also expressed surprise that so much information has leaked out, apparently through the Portuguese police.

They are adamant Madeleine was abducted and are angered by vicious smears - published by the Portuguese media - that the McCanns and their friends are somehow complicit in her disappearance.

One source says he believes Madeleine was taken between 9.05pm and 9.15pm and that the patio windows at the rear of the apartment had been shut but unlocked on the night so the McCanns could check on their children more easily.

He said: "It could not be anything other than abduction. There is no doubt in anybody's mind that the girl Jane Turner saw being carried away was Madeleine."

Almost four months after Madeleine vanished police in Portugal appear to have little idea what happened.

A series of leaks claim Madeleine died in the apartment and that she may have been murdered or killed by accident, with the friends of the McCanns somehow implicated.

But the source is adamant that none of the dining companions was away from the table at the tapas bar long enough not only to kill the little girl but then to dump the body.

The source said: "If it was one of the friends then it would have to be all of them to ensure a cover up. That's just plain nonsense."

Madeleine McCann - What a little Angel. If there is one missing child in this World that represents ALL missing children, it's Madeleine. Maddy proves my contention it only takes a second to abduct a child and it's happened even when the parents were in the same house. If someone wants a child badly enough they will manufacture an avenue to GET that child.

Lots of news here, but what's real and what's false? This is one of the most difficult cases to discern I have ever seen. The Police appear completely incompetent and if this is some new fangled way to run an investigation I will be shocked should it produce a viable and convictable suspect.

It's truly impossible at this time to know exactly what happened to Madeleine McCann. Sad to say, but it is.

At this time I do not believe Gerry and Kate are involved. Actually I have never believed they were / are involved. If they are, it would be one of the greatest acting performances since I actually believed Al Pacino was Tony Montana.

The list of outrageous acts of idiocy accomplished by the Portuguese Police and by Investigator Olegario Sousa in particular, leaves everyone who is even a tad bit interested in this case wondering exactly why this Police Force is giving the Aruban LE a run for their money.

Sousa vs Dompig. It a toss up. One minor difference here. Dompig knows exactly what happened to Natalee. Sousa still has no clue what happened to Madeleine.

Sousa is so clueless that a job in LE seems like a total stretch of the imagination. The man has no idea how to run an investigation.

Earlier this week he and the PLE decided try a trial balloon and see what shakes out. That's not how to run an investigation. Sousa and the PLE decided to see what would happen if they said Madeleine was dead. Apparently this upset Gerry and Kate tremendously. And rightfully so. As Gerry has said on many occasions, he and Kate are under the impression that the PLE are looking for a live Madeleine.

Also revealed was the fact that a search dog indicated a HIT on a blood smear / splatter on a wall in their apartment. A small smear and according to all info there was an attempt to clean that smear.

Let's remember that DNA can hang around for 7 years according to info also released during the inquiry. This smear COULD be from someone who used the room and apartment long before Madeleine was even born.

A prudent investigator would have waited for the results to come back on the DNA and then confronted Gerry and Kate. Instead the bumbling idiot plays mind games with a grieving family. This Sousa is not only incompetent, he's a danger to innocent people.

Also revealed during the week was the fact that investigators are using rakes and other gardening equipment around the home of the only formal suspect Robert Murat. Shouldn't that have been done before he was named a formal suspect? More Bungling.

For some reason the PLE are determined to released Robert Murat even though several people place him outside the apartment on the night in question and there was even a meeting between the McCann's friends, who were with them on holiday, and Robert Murat at the Police Station that turned quite heated. Someone is NOT telling the truth, but who is it?

Lots of procedures not preformed and evidence over looked.

Let's look back to Richard Edward's article of June 1st 2007. I posted this article at the time and the list of blunders keeps growing.

15 KEY BLUNDERS

1 Police were at the scene quickly but officers played down suggestions that Madeleine had been abducted and believed she had just wandered off. The crime scene in and around the hotel was not taped off, ruining prospects of obtaining vital forensic evidence.

2 There was a lack of specialist fingertip searching in streets around the hotel meaning more opportunities to find forensic evidence were lost. A former senior British detective working for the media called the scene "the worst preserved" he had witnessed in his career.

3 Officers failed to make early house-to-house inquiries when potential witnesses were still likely to be in the resort. Only on the Saturday, more than 48 hours later, did they start searching some local apartments and a full list of guests was obtained on Sunday. Staff at Mark Warner's complex were only questioned 60 hours after Madeleine disappeared.

4 There are still people in the same apartment block as Mr and Mrs McCann who have never been questioned. Empty properties yards from where the child was taken have never been searched.

5 Police failed to inform Spanish border authorities of Madeleine's disappearance until the morning after she was taken - giving the abductor the chance to flee the country.

6 CCTV on the main road out of Praia da Luz, going towards Spain, was not checked by police.

7 Early witness descriptions created confusion. At one stage there were six different E-fit images being shown to local people.

8 On the morning of May 7, Gerry and Kate McCann issued a televised appeal direct to the abductor. Six hours later, a police chief said at a press conference: "We are not 100 per cent certain she was abducted."

9 Detectives could not issue information on the investigation due to strict Portuguese laws on "judicial secrecy". However the law includes two exceptions, both of which apply in the case of Madeleine.

10 It meant no direct appeal for help was made and police failed to give a clear description of Madeleine. There were no posters put up in the early days. It was left to Madeleine's parents to describe what she as wearing on the night she disappeared.

11 An appeal for a suspect was finally issued 22 days after Madeleine went missing, together with a description. However police made another blunder by issuing two different height descriptions - the result of a mistranslation.

12 On May 9 the search was scaled down \u2026 searches were not very visible, helicopter not used much.

13 There was a delay in calling in specialists. Two British child abduction experts were flown in a week later, mobile phone tracker technicians who helped in the Soham investigation came in last week.

14 Leaks have hampered the inquiry. On May 16, Portuguese newspapers reported that police were "on the trail" of a Russian friend of Robert Murat, the formal suspect in the case. He was only detained for questioning after he had been traced by journalists.

15 Madeleine's favourite toy could have been a crucial key in tracking her down. She took it to bed with her every night including the night she was taken. The abductor could have left some trace of DNA evidence on it, but police did not check and Mrs McCann has had the pink soft toy with her ever since. One specialist said scientists would have needed to examine it for at least several days. He said: "Now it's probably too late. It's an absolute glaring error."

What a shitty little town. So so shitty!

The little town no one heard of before Madeleine McCann.

The photo of a Florida woman who has been missing for a year-and-a-half has turned up on Internet dating sites for lesbians and senior citizens.

A picture of Jennifer Kesse, who disappeared in Orlando when she was 24, has been posted with the profile of lindaneedslove on SeniorPeopleMeet.com and with that of chickcheckinaz on lesbianpersonalsonline.com.

“It’s disturbing,” her father, Drew Kesse, said in a phone interview. “Whoever cut and pasted it obviously had to go on her site to get it. They had to know she was missing. How someone can do that — it’s horrible.” The Web site dedicated to Jennifer's case is jenniferkesse.com

Kesse, 50, said he and his wife, Joyce — who live in Bradenton, Fla. — are in the process of trying to copyright Jennifer’s image so they’ll at least be able to file a lawsuit against anyone who uses it without permission.

Jennifer Kesse was last heard from the night of Jan. 23, 2006. But on Jan. 24, she never made it to work at Westgate Resorts, where she manages the financial department that oversees timeshares.

Family and friends searched the area around her home and a nearby mall. Her car, a 2004 black four-door Chevrolet Malibu, was found abandoned about one mile from her home at Texas & Americana.

Surveillance video taken on the grounds of her Orlando apartment complex shows a person parking her car at about 1 p.m. on Jan. 24.

The investigator in charge of her case said there’s not much action that can be taken against those who have stolen Jennifer’s image to use with their profiles on dating Web sites.

“There’s nothing we can do about it,” said Detective Joel Wright of the Orlando Police Department. “We can look into their background to see if it’s some sex offender, look into their history and see if it’s anybody who might have come into contact with her.”

He said it’s unlikely that those who have used Jennifer’s photograph have anything to do with her disappearance, however.

“More than likely, it’s somebody just trying to make themselves look better for someone they might want to meet later on,” Wright said. “I wonder what happens when they do meet that person.”

Lindaneedslove writes under the photo that it depicts “Linda after haircut.” She describes herself as a 25-year-old woman from Knoxville, Tenn., who has 75 percent hearing loss and is looking for “a special older man to love, to be very good friends with.” The “wonderful older man” she’s seeking will want to be with a young woman and “will love me for who I am,” she writes.

Wright said the discovery that Jennifer’s picture is being falsely used has been an annoying distraction in the investigation.

“All it does is slow me down,” he said. “All of a sudden, the calls start coming in. It’s more of a nuisance than anything else.”

Though there haven’t been any new leads in the case, Wright said he and the other investigators are going through old tips and entering them into a new state lead-tracking system to see if they might have missed something.

“We’re making progress,” he said.

Jennifer’s dad worries about the fact that the people who posted his daughter’s image on the dating sites are “very fraudulent, very deceitful. They’re out there looking for sexual contact.”

“Obviously you’ve got to be sick to do that,” Kesse said. “We don’t want Jennifer’s likeness abused. It’s just as simple as that.”
